Batman: Sword of Azrael #2 is an issue of the series Batman: Sword of Azrael (Volume 1) with a cover date of November, 1992. It was published on September 15, 1992.

Synopsis for "Azrael Does Not Protect."

The helicopter crashes with Bruce Wayne and Alfred Pennyworth inside. They survive the explosion caused by Carleton LeHah, but the site is completely destroyed along with the chalet where Jean-Paul Valley and Nomoz were.

Jean-Paul and Nomoz have survived the explosion because they headed to an underground shelter.

An avalanche happens as a result of the explosion, covering the underground shelter and damaging the chopper used by LeHah to escape. While narrating the events of the accident, LeHah feels the presence of Biis, a demon lord considered an archenemy of Azrael. Under his influence, LeHah decapitates Lescault.

Meanwhile, Bruce and Alfred go down to the area where the chalet had been. Suddenly, the ground under them begins to crumble. From underneath comes a hovercraft with Nomoz and Jean-Paul inside. Bruce, now dressed as Batman, is attacked by Jean-Paul, now in the Azrael Armor, under instructions from Nomoz. Batman is able to fight Azrael, but then gets hit by the hovercraft which collects Azrael. Instead of following the hovercraft, Batman and Alfred decide to check the hideout from where the vehicle had arisen. As they descend into the hole left by the explosion, Nomoz and Jean-Paul watch on. Nomoz holds in his hand a radio controlled detonator which will cause explosives within the underground shelter to go off once Nomoz depresses the button.

LeHah, after making his way from the mountains to Zurich, dresses himself as Biis. Meanwhile Azrael is wearing a revamped version of the Azrael Armor. It’s made of a bulletproof and fire resistant fabric. It also comes with a retractable blade which is capable of maintaining a flame, to replace the lost sword. Nomoz recounts some of the history of the Order of St. Dumas to Jean-Paul. He says that they split from the Knights Templar 600 years ago. The Order husbanded its vast wealth, using it for what they considered good causes, and protected its members. If a member violated the Order’s trust then Azrael would be sent to punish them. LeHah was one of those that broke the Order’s trust by looting the Order’s bank accounts and used the money to build an arms business. After Nomoz discovered this he sent Jean-Paul’s father, as Azrael, to deal with LeHah.

LeHah starts a manhunt of the people who belong to the Order of St. Dumas. Back in Lucerno, Batman and Alfred are investigating the underground shelter. Alfred cooks both some food while Batman finds a radio rig that’s tuned to a relay satellite. Batman hopes to use this to find other members of the Order of St. Dumas. He also reveals a bomb that, thanks to a loose wire, didn’t detonate. Nomoz, being aware of the fact that LeHah knows where the other members of the Order are, decides to go with Jean-Paul to visit an old member of the Order who is currently hospitalized. LeHah also intends to find the hospitalized person and kill them.

Meanwhile, in Lucerno, Batman has used the radio rig to contact people who could help him locate the Order’s other members. He also arranges for himself and Alfred to be rescued. Just as Nomoz and Jean-Paul arrive at the hospital in Geneva, they realize Biis is already there. He shoots a nurse and then kills the hospitalized member of the Order. Nomoz tells Jean-Paul to change into the Armor, but there’s no time as Jean-Paul is shot many times and pushed back through a window, falling down to a certain death.
