With Batman's 300th appearance in Detective Comics #327, editor Julius Schwartz decided to give Batman and Robin a "new look". This hardcover is the first collection to reprint the first stories from Detective Comics and Batman with this new editorial approach in color and in chronological order. This first collection reprints stories from May to November, 1964.

- Although Detective Comics #327 was intended to be the first issue to feature Batman's "new look", the costume actually made it's debut in World's Finest #141 in May, 1964.
