Batman Adventures #11 is an issue of the series Batman Adventures (Volume 1) with a cover date of August, 1993.

Synopsis for "The Beast Within!"

Dr. Francine Langstrom accepts an award for scientific excellence on behalf of her husband Kirk, but the ceremony is interrupted by an unwelcome guest: Man-Bat. Both Francine and Batman believe Kirk to have willingly re-taken his Man-Bat mutagen, and Kirk, despite his murky memories, does little to deny the possibility.

Kirk surrenders himself to police custody, and is later visited by Dr. Stefan Parry, an old colleague wishing to help him. A few moments later, however, Man-Bat kidnaps Parry and escapes police headquarters. Hours after the fact, Kirk wakes up inside Parry's home, with Parry explaining that he wishes to help Kirk purge himself of the mutagen entirely.

Batman, upon tracking Man-Bat to Parry's home, discovers the truth: Kirk had never resumed his Man-Bat transformation. Instead, Parry had synthesized the mutagen and transformed himself into Man-Bat to frame Kirk, whom he had always resented for securing a scholarship in their college days. Parry quickly became addicted to the thrill of being Man-Bat, and had faked his own kidnapping to keep Kirk "at large", giving himself the liberty of transforming whenever he likes.

Parry then downs another dose of the mutagen, transforms, and attacks Batman, who (with help from Kirk) barely manages to subdue him and inject him with the antidote. Though Parry's threat is now ended, Kirk acknowledges that Man-Bat's is not, as his own temptations to become Man-Bat are as strong as ever.
