Synopsis for "Troubled Dreams"

After the Scarecrow's latest escape from Arkham, all of Gotham's citizens - including Batman - are gripped by powerful nightmares centering on the Scarecrow's face. These nightmares instill a deep phobia of the Scarecrow's silhouette, even in waking hours, allowing Scarecrow to terrorize the city simply by walking the streets.

Batman eventually deduces that the nightmares are being generated by a high-frequency transmission - science which is beyond Scarecrow's intellect. He traces the transmissions to the laboratory of another criminal scientist, who, upon being threatened with violence, admits the effect will wear off in a few weeks.

Scarecrow continues to run amok, only to be neutralized when Batman unmasks him from behind. Without the mask, he can no longer cast the nightmare-inducing silhouette, and is quickly attacked by scores of angry citizens. In the following weeks, Gotham's psyche finally heals.
