Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic #5 is an issue of the series Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic (Volume 1) with a cover date of January, 2024. It was published on November 28, 2023.
Synopsis for "The Green"
Batman and Kyle battle the Roots. Terry tells Kyle to find and destroy John Constantine while he holds the elementals off. Kyle uses a charm to track Constantine and it leads him to a huge, black tree in the centre of the garden, covered in the missing children suspended in pods. Black Orchid attacks him, but Kyle sets the garden on fire while shielding the kids. Terry realises that Constantine is inside the tree and cuts it open, revealing him fused with it. Constantine claims he is saving the children but Terry refuses to believe him, saying that John doesn't care about anyone but himself.
On the surface, Donovan Lumos is only minutes away from destroying the old neighbourhoods and remaking Gotham in his image, yet he somehow feels unsatisfied. He decides to call Beam Boonma to gloat in order to cheer himself up. He tells that what is coming will be beautiful, but when the timer on the demolition hits zero, rather than the controlled detonations he planned, it is a massive explosion which cracks open a crevice in the ground and sets off an earthquake.
Terry flies back up to the surface to deal with the disaster. He leaves Kyle to face Constantine alone, but tells him that he knows he can handle it. On the surface, the Roots, Killer Croc and the Court of Owls climb out of the hole and attack the city above.
