Synopsis for "Gotham's Sword"

In the two months since Bruce Wayne was murdered by the AI now controlling Neo-Gotham, Terry McGinnis has been living off the grid, an analogue hero in a digital world. He continues to try to fight crime and keep the Batman legacy alive, but despite his best efforts the city's crime rate is unchanged, every time he saves someone the Living Gotham hurts somebody else. He also writes a journal on physical paper, detailing all his thoughts for Bruce as if he were still alive.

Using a suit rented with cash and a stolen invitation, he infiltrates a gala held at Wayne-Powers by the new CEO Donovan Lumos, aka the Holographic Man, a flamboyant tech entrepreneur and former crime lord from Bludhaven who specialises in hard light technology. At the gala, Terry plants a bug on Lumos and overhears him talking about a shipment of drugs he is bringing in to the city. Batman goes to meet Commissioner Gordon to ask for her assistance, but she tells him that she is planning to retire, weary after a lifetime of crime fighting. She believes that Gotham's crime rate finally stabilising is due to her and the GCPD's efforts, and Terry does not have the heart to tell her that the AI is enforcing a fixed status quo on the city.

Terry heads to the docks to intercept the shipment and easily overpowers the regular criminals. He destroys the drugs but is attacked by the Sword of Gotham, a new villain wielding a hard light sword who appears to be working for the Living Gotham directly. Terry leads him on an aerial chase into the city and eventually brings him down on the roof of an apartment building. The Sword tells Terry that the drugs he prevented being brought into the city would have killed 3,450 people, and now that Terry has saved them he must ensure that an equal number of people die. He releases a huge blast of energy, destroying the building they are standing on and killing the 3,449 inhabitants. Terry is buried in rubble under the collapsing building.
