Synopsis for "Gotham's Shadow"

It has been ten weeks since the Sword of Gotham destroyed the apartment building. Terry survived but was injured and spent a month recovering. He modifies the Batsuit to remove anything that sends out a signal, this makes him harder for the Living Gotham to track but also costs him some of the suit's most useful functions like the adaptive camoflauge, and his basic supplies such as Batarangs are running low with no way of replenishing them.

Terry analyses crime patterns around the city and notices that, while the Living Gotham has made the GCPD unnaturally effective in most of the city, there have been a rash of jewel thefts in Uptown that the police seem unable to stop. His investigation leads him to the facility where the stolen jewels are being cut and he encounters the thieves; three people acting in a hive mind who call themselves Gestalt. Gestalt flee from Batman, even running through an area of the city controlled by Jokerz to lose him, but he eventually corners them on a rooftop, using up the last of the fuel for his rocket boots to do so.

Batman tells Gestalt that he doesn't want to fight and needs their help. He reveals the truth about the Living Gotham and says that, since it doesn't appear to be able to predict them, they can help him stop it. However, they already know about the Living Gotham and believe it is unbeatable, they chose to join their minds and become another superintelligence to allow them to hide from the Living Gotham and retain some form of freedom. They refuse to help Terry and depart, meanwhile on the streets of the city below, the Sword of Gotham has tracked Terry down again.
