Batman Beyond (Volume 2) #2 is an issue of the series Batman Beyond (Volume 2) with a cover date of December, 1999.

Synopsis for "Ebony Tears"

Batman fought what appeared to be a black armored gang that was stealing diamonds, rare coins, and collectibles, although he later realized that it was Inque wrapping herself around other people to perform her thefts. Bruce deduced that Inque couldn't hold onto her shape anymore without help and was stealing valuables to pay for a treatment that would make her human again.

At Gotham MedLabs, she took a serum from Melwyn that made her human again and Batman attempted to apprehend her for her crimes. In order to escape, Inque threw an experimental autogenic fuel at Batman, but started a fire, in which she seemingly died. She actually retained her powers, but still also retained her human appearance, while Bruce told Batman that he never "counted someone as out" until the body was found and that he knew a woman "who had nine lives."
