In his earliest days as Batman, Bruce struggles to balance vigilantism and his relationship with Viveca Beausoleil. She grows tired of his excuses and the missed dates, and he realizes he can't afford to give her the attention she deserves after he takes off early to be with her and the robbers he captured were found by members of their gang, who got into a shootout with the police that caused the death of a young girl. He breaks up with Viveca, claiming there's someone else.

Synopsis for "Rapscallions"

Huntress is captured and tied up by a gang of child criminals who believe Huntress is affiliated with the dealers they are planning to rob to spite their employer, the small-time drug lord Karros. Tommy leads all but two away to save themselves, and Huntress tries to reason with Kris and her brother Billy as she unties herself. When the dealers arrive, Billy is shot and killed while she fends them off. Kris blames herself for her brother's death since it was her plan to kill Karros and rob the drug dealers. Huntress finds Karros's body and thinks she shouldn't have gotten involved.

Synopsis for "The Penny Plunderers"

Joe Coyne tells how he became a coin-themed villain. After his early attempts at crime garner him mockery for his small spoils, as well as stints in juvenile detention and Blackgate, he decides to adopt coins as a theme and achieves moderate success. When he robs the Coin and Stamp Exposition, however, he is stopped by Batman and Robin, and his giant penny falls on top of him, killing him. To add insult to injury, Batman and Robin have no idea who he is. Coyne finishes his story and finally realizes he isn't in lockup, he's in Hell and the person he's speaking to is a demon.
