Synopsis for "Pay the Ferryman"
Years ago Lady Shiva was prevented from killing the mayor of Paris when the Crown beat her to it. Now the Crown's employers the Gibraltar Guild have put a hit on him. She chases him across Europe as he takes down the other assassins after him. He contemplates his past as a poor child in Post-War London who committed his first assassination for only a crown, which he now wears around his neck and earned him his nickname.
When Lady Shiva catches up to him, he reveals that he is dying of cancer and he wants a more glorious death, but she refuses to kill him because there is no honor in killing someone who is already dying. She has killed defenseless people for a job before, but this is personal. He pays her his namesake crown to kill him, and she accepts, but after he is dead, she throws the crown in the water with him and says it is “enough to pay the ferryman.”
