Batman Chronicles #9 is an issue of the series Batman Chronicles (Volume 1) with a cover date of June, 1997.
Synopsis for "Photo Finish"
Batman and Robin catch Catwoman apparently in the act of robbing a shopping mall, which she denies, claiming she has better taste. Batman ends up on top of Catwoman, in an intimate position, and he sends Robin off to search for evidence, much to Dick's displeasure.
He runs into Batgirl, which leaves him somewhat tongue-tied. It's their first meeting, and when Batgirl learns that Batman hasn't mentioned her to Robin she assumes that he is keeping her as a secret weapon. Robin sees this as a bid to replace him as sidekick, but Batgirl denies it. She's only met Batman a couple times, and he hasn't trained her at all.
Hearing this, Robin tells her to keep out of the way, but she flatly refuses. The two enter the mall through the ventilation system where they find a tent stake. They conclude that it had been on the roof and that the burglar had planned on using it to climb out of the mall, only to find that it couldn't bear his weight--not a mistake that Catwoman would make.
The crook must still be there, unable to get out. Unfortunately they get in each other's way when they try to capture the burglar, and he makes a run for it.
Robin and Batgirl--who wants to be called Batwoman, but Robin won't have it--agree not to mention this to Batman, and go in pursuit. They team-up to take the man down, rescue his hostages (a cleaner and her daughter), and leave him tied up in a trash can, then clear out before the police arrive.
The police, upon finding the tied-up robber, think that Batman did it... and that he has a sense of humor.
On the upper floor of the mall, Robin and Batgirl exchange a high-five. Batgirl asks Robin if he's ever been on a date, and he says he doesn't have time for that. He wonders if he would put mugshots in a scrapbook if he had one. Batgirl says that would hardly remind him of nice memories, and she asks him if he has any change. They climb into a photo booth to commemorate the event.
Batgirl leaves and Robin returns to the roof where Batman is waiting, alone. He takes the strip of photographs, thinking they're more evidence, and he looks them over. He congratulates an anxious Robin on his good teamwork. Robin replies, "Good team!"

Synopsis for "Just Desserts"
Mr. Freeze has taken Wilson Carberry, bank president of Bristol Trust, prisoner, and Carberry says that Freeze told him that only he can save Carberry's life and that he will let Carberry's wife die if the GCPD waiting outside make a move on the bank.
When Bullock and Montoya start asking too many questions, Freeze takes the phone away from Carberry. They won't let Mrs. Carberry die, and they don't have enough information to save her. Commissioner Gordon goes to call in the experts.
Batman and Robin head out to find Mrs. Carberry while the GCPD keep the heat on Freeze. Robin thinks this is a new technique for Freeze, but Batman knows this is an old technique for bank robberies.
They start at the Carberry condo where they find Mrs. Carberry flash-frozen but alive. Freeze tells Gordon he will only tell them how to save Mrs. Carberry if he's allowed to "skate out of here."
Police officers interrogate the neighbors, but the only relevant information they gain is that there was a catering truck there for the Carberrys earlier and that it sounded like people were cutting firewood inside their condo. Batman says that is enough to confirm his hunch, and he tells Gordon to find out the name of the caterer, check the apartment for luggage, and to tell Freeze that they're surrendering to his demands.
Freeze and his henchpeople head for the door, but they're blinded by a flash of light. Batman and Robin use the distraction to cover their attack on Freeze and his people. They're arrested, and Gordon calls Bock to confirm what Batman suspected--the Carberrys' luggage is gone, and there are records of long-distance phone calls to a club shed in the Grand Caymans. Also, the block of ice supposedly containing Mrs. Carberry has melted completely.
Gordon tells Bullock and Montoya to get their warrants. They arrest Albert Tonelli, the caterer, who designs ice sculptures, and Mrs. Carberry, who is safe and sunbathing in the Caymans.

Synopsis for "Passion's Fruit"
Poison Ivy is inside her cell in Arkham Asylum, summoning plants from far away and evolving them into little rat-like creatures. She thinks that they come when called, unlike Batman.
The Arkham guards see Poison Ivy with her plant creatures on the monitors, and one--named Malcolm--suits up to take it from her. She tries to charm him, but he's wearing the suit and her pheromones can't get through. Except they do when Poison Ivy touches his shoulder, and when she suggests that he brings home the plant creature for his daughter, he doesn't resist.
He takes one home for Denise that night, and she's thrilled. She asks if they can stay with her while she sleeps, and he agrees, "Just for tonight."
While Denise sleeps, the creatures creep away and multiply, and Poison Ivy sits in her cell, waiting for Batman to come.
The creatures swarm the city, and Batman finds Commissioner Gordon in his office. They agree that Ivy is behind this, and Batman goes to Arkham to confront her.
He asks her why she did this, and Poison Ivy reveals that she missed him and, knowing that he only came when something went wrong, she made something go wrong. Batman acknowledges that she did and tells her that now she has to stop it.
Poison Ivy tells him it's easy. She gave them the spark, so she can take the spark away. But she only agrees to do it on one condition--she wants some green in her cell. Batman says that's not possible, and she knows that too... so her second offer is a kiss. On her cheek.
All across Gotham, the plant creatures turn into strawberries, and back in her cell, Poison Ivy smiles.
