Batman Unburied is a superhero fiction podcast created by David S. Goyer for Spotify. Premiering in 2022, it follows the titular vigilante's investigations and crime-fighting activities in Gotham City.
The podcast was met with positive reviews and was one of Spotify's most listened-to podcasts throughout its first season. It also led to the spin-off series The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark (2023).
Premise[]
The first season of Batman Unburied follows forensic pathologist Bruce Wayne as he investigates the murders of the Harvester, with no memory of ever having been the Batman. Meanwhile, Det. Barbara Gordon consults the Riddler to help find the Batman as the murders continue.[1]
The second season, Fallen City, follows the Batman as he investigates a murder alongside Oracle that leads him to a conspiracy with the potential to tear Gotham City apart.[2]

Production on Season 1[]
In 2020, Spotify struck a deal with Warner Bros. and DC Comics, which allowed them to produce narrative podcasts based on DC characters and stories. Later that year, Batman Unburied was announced to be the first of these podcasts, and was being developed by David S. Goyer, co-writer of The Dark Knight. Goyer stated that he'd been a fan of narrative podcasts for a long time, and that Unburied would "dig into the more nightmarish members of the Dark Knight's rogues' gallery."[3]
Winston Duke and Jason Isaacs were announced to be cast as Batman and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively, in July 2021,[4] with the full cast being revealed by that October.[5] The first season premiered in May 2022 as Spotify's largest simultaneous worldwide launch.[6]
Production on Season 2 and spinoff[]
Batman Unburied was renewed for a second season in June 2022,[7] and a spinoff series, The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark, was announced in 2023, with Colman Domingo replacing Duke as Batman.[8] Domingo returned to the role for the second season of Unburied, entitled Fallen City, which was released November 2024. Isaacs and Gina Rodriguez reprised their respective roles as Alfred and Barbara Gordon from the first season.[9]
