Synopsis for "The Brave and the Mold"

An old man sits in apartment on the 84th floor reciting the lyrics for “My Wild Irish Rose” when he is shot in the face twice. The victim is identified by Jim Gordon and Batman as Lloyd Benard McGinn, a loner without any notable past.

Swamp Thing sprouts from an object on the desk and informs Batman that the dead man is actually his father. They did not have a strong relationship as Lloyd had abandoned him as a child. Swamp Thing is unsure why he is there, but he wants to help investigate the murder.

As the murderer came through the window into the apartment on the 84th floor, Batman believes that Kite Man may have been involved. Upon questioning Kite Man, he reveals that he sold one of his kites to Mooney Money’s Pawn shop.

The pawn shop sold the kite to Nat the Gnat a local weapons supplier. Nat refuses to give up who he then sold the kite to but Batman notices a necklace featuring a tooth from a white caiman croc and connects the purchase to Headhunter who is known for shooting his victims twice in the head, always twice.

Batman and Swamp Thing locate Headhunter at the Gotham Museum of Art. Headhunter had met Lloyd in a bar while he was drunk and singing the same song to himself. He murdered Lloyd because he felt that Lloyd was bragging that he was close to Swamp Thing and that means he was close to superheroes and got answers that regular people can’t get.

Swamp Thing attacks and kills Headhunter while reciting the lyrics of his father’s song. Batman is furious that he was used and involved in the murder of Headhunter. Swamp Thing tells Batman that his father was murdered so Batman wouldn’t understand. This angers Batman and Swamp Thing disappears while Batman screams and calls him a coward.
