Synopsis for "First Blood"

Eight months ago, Batwing admires his new suit which Batman has just given him. Batman reminds David that all he has given him are tools, but that it is his mind, will and desire that will really make him Batwing.

In the present, Massacre has seriously wounded David, after murdering everyone at his police precinct's HQ. He goes in for a killing blow but is interrupted by gunfire form David's friend and fellow officer, Kia Okuru, who has arrived with backup. They open fire and Massacre is forced to flee.

Two weeks later, David wakes up in the Haven, being cared for by Matu, after they claimed he was being moved to a private hospital. David is desperate to hunt down Massacre, but Matu insists he stay and recuperate, on Batman's orders.

Elsewhere, a man teaches a class in a village school, when Massacre suddenly bursts in and demands that he tell the children to leave. Massacre is furious that this man has turned to teaching after all he has done in his past. He attacks, despite the man claiming not to know what he's talking about, but finally the man sends Massacre flying and crackles with electricity. Massacre is glad for the fight.

Back at the Haven, Matu tries to restrain David, who is in bad shape. Remembering what Massacre said just before he tried to kill him, that he couldn't let the police get in his way when he was "so close to home, where small minds expand", David has a sudden revelation, and gets ready to leave, realising that Massacre was being literal and is somewhere there in Tinasha. Matu again tries to stop him, and David shoots him with a tranquilliser dart.

Back at the fight, the teacher has been revealed as Thunder Fall of the Kingdom. Just as Thunder Fall seems to get the upper hand, Massacre cuts off his arm with a swoop of his machete. Before he can finish the job he is attacked by Batwing, who realised that Massacre was referring to schools when he said "…where small minds expand". As Batwing confronts Massacre he reflects that, as he is in such bad shape, he'll just have to get by on rage.
