"Hill Marvel" is one of the Lieutenant Marvels, a support squad for Captain Marvel of teens who are, like him, named Billy Batson.

History

A young man named Billy Batson lived in the Southern United States on Earth-S during the 1930s-40s. Having learned of a famous WHIZ Radio commentator who shares his name, Billy met with two other young men (also named Billy Batson) and traveled to WHIZ Radio to meet the younger, more famous Batson. To differentiate between each other, Southern Billy became known as "Hill Billy" and the other two became known as "Tall Billy" and "Fat Billy". They all formed the Billy Batson Club. Young Billy's nemesis Doctor Sivana hatched a plan to kill the "real" Billy Batson and sent his henchmen to find out where Billy lived. Sivana's goons mistakenly found the other Billy Batsons instead and captured them. Sivana used them as bait to trap the real Billy. Sivana and his henchmen gagged Billy and tied him and the other Billys to a buzzsaw. Billy was able to remove his gag but his shout of "Shazam" could not be heard over the roar of the buzzsaw. With seconds to spare, Billy enlisted the aid of his club members and they all shouted "Shazam" together. When the smoke cleared, Captain Marvel saw that the other Billys had transformed as well, into Tall Marvel, Hill Marvel and Fat Marvel. Hill Marvel remarked that they had each changed into Captain Marvel but Fat Marvel countered that by saying that there is only one Captain Marvel. Tall Marvel suggested that they were really Lieutenant Marvels, hence the trio's name. The Captain and his three Lieutenants easily defeated Sivana and his henchmen. After shouting "Shazam" and transforming back into their civilian identities, the three Billys headed back home. The Lieutenant Marvels regrouped to help Captain Marvel and his pals Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel, Jr. on several occasions. In their final adventure together, the Lieutenants were once again captured by Doctor Sivana during the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. The Crisis resulted in the collapse of the Multiverse, and all of the occupants of Earth-S, including the Lieutenant Marvels ceased to exist.

Powers

• Divine Empowerment - All of the powers granted collection of six by gods and figures of legend either directly or through Shazam.
  • Transformation: The ability to transform from a mortal to the entity empowered by the six.
    • Lightning Bolt: A mystical lightning bolt from the skies is responsible for change him to and from his alter ego.
    • Enhanced Intellect: Intellect and wisdom are heightened to superhuman levels. This also provides great or comprehensive knowledge in many areas.
    • Flight: The ability to hover or soar at high speed through an act of sheer will. By flying faster than light, he was able to access the Rock of Eternity, where he could travel to any time or dimension.
    • Indomitable Will: An incredible amount of willpower that allows perseverance in overwhelming odds and seemingly unbeatable situations.
    • Invulnerability
      • Toxic Immunity: Once he drank poisoned tea without side-effects.
      • Superhuman Stamina
      • Self-Sustenance: The ability to survive without sleep, food, water, or air.
    • Superhuman Speed: The ability to run or fly at incredible rates of speed.
    • Superhuman Reflexes
    • Superhuman Agility
    • Superhuman Strength
    • Superhuman Durability

Weaknesses

• Vulnerability to Electricity: He can be reverted to his alter ego with enough electricity.
• He will continue in his mortal form if he can't be striken by his mystical lightning (being unable to talk, or if the energy is deflected or absorbed ).

Notes

• This version of Billy "Hill Marvel" Batson (Earth-S), including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022-2023. Even though other versions of the character may have appeared, this information does not apply to those versions.
