Billy Batson was once Shazam, before he imprisoned a mysterious entity in the Rock of Eternity. In order to allow Billy to both guard the Rock and still be a hero, the demon Neron separated Billy and his empowered form into two different entities. Billy would remain in Hell to guard the Rock of Eternity, while Shazam returned to Earth to act as a hero, now without his younger self's innocence or conscience.
History
Billy Batson, as Shazam, was once a member of the Justice League,[1] and later the Teen Titans.[2]
After the Four Horsemen of Apocalypse were absorbed by Raven, Billy decided to imprison her in the Rock of Eternity.[3] Not knowing how to both secure the Rock and also protect Earth, he made a deal with the demon Neron, separating him from his Shazam form. Billy's innocence made him a key protector of the Rock's entrance in Hell, so he had Shazam chain him to the door, allowing him to resist the temptations of Hell.[4]
