Synopsis for "New Wings (Part I of IV) - Domestic Troubles"

Gan "Duke" Nguyen is an outspoken talk radio host. One night, on the streets of Seattle, he interrupts a drug deal, and winds up in a fight. Afterwards, the dealer makes contact with his neo-nazi boss, and they make plans to have Duke killed. Nearby, at the Sherwood Florist, the sound of the fight wakes Dinah Lance from her sleep. She decides to do some training to work out her annoyances.

After having calculated the florist's expenses, Dinah discovered that her unemployed boyfriend Oliver Queen's miscellaneous spending has created a huge deficit for them both. She had apparently fallen asleep at her desk when she is awakened by a stray arrow that just misses her head. Oliver is outside testing a new and expensive bow, and accidentally loosed an arrow through the door into her office. Dinah is enraged, both by his antics and his spending. In her frustration, she rejects Oliver's offer of hot sex, and leaves him alone to deal with their financial woes and heads off to the mountains by herself.

Dinah and her guide Aunty Wren (who has given her the annoying nickname of "noisy crow") climb the mountains within the rainforest on the Quinault Indian Reservation. At the top of the mountain, they encounter Duke, who is acting as Asian language translator for the tribe in their negotiations for selling lumber. Afterwards, Duke begs a ride to the ferry back to Seattle with Dinah, and she complies. Meanwhile, men sent to kill Duke head back to the ferry as well.

At the Ferry lounge, Duke is flirtatious with Dinah, and guesses that she must be a cop, by her demeanour. While Dinah's in the restroom, the thugs catch up to Duke, and knock him unconscious, dragging him away. Dinah happens to see the altercation, and changes into her Black Canary costume. She intervenes, throwing one of the thugs overboard, and tying the other to a winch. The Port Authority come after her, but she evades them, changing back into plainclothes. When they question Duke, he simply responds that the thugs slipped.

On the ride home, Duke deduces that Dinah is Black Canary, and wonders how he can thank her. Elsewhere, on a military base, a soldier is ordered to shoot an innocent man.
