- Ishmael is killing metahumans to join the organization.

Jefferson Pierce mentions his journeys to alternate universes and his fight alongside Superman. These events respectively happened in Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Three and Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Five.
It is shown an Earth-Prime possible future where the killing of the young woman at the hands of Freeland Police Department caused extreme riots in the United States of America.
- These events are averted by Black Lightning who stops the police from murdering the girl.
Ishmael's desire to join the League of Assassins is a reference to his comic counterpart being a member of the League.
- Destiny hires him to kill Black Lightning and his meta allies that is also a reference to Ishmael being an enemy of the Outsiders in the comics.
