History

Manta was a criminal who on one occasion tried to rule the oceans of the world with a water beast. Later he became a member of the Legion of Doom, constantly pitting himself against Aquaman.

• This version of the character is exclusive to the continuity of the television series Super Friends and is an adaptation of Black Manta. The original character was created by Bob Haney and Nick Cardy and first appeared in Aquaman #35.
• Black Manta was voiced by Ted Cassidy for most episodes with Stanley Ralph Ross covering the role for one episode.
• In his first appearance Black Manta is called Manta and wore a mud brown costume. In all other appearances he wears his traditional costume and uses the alias Black Manta.
