The Black Earl of Moray - known as Black Moray - was an enemy of the Teen Titans.

History

In ancient days, the earl practiced black magic from a lake in the middle of Loch Ness. His black arts influenced the towns around the lake, causing a rise in grave robbing, fish theft and petty violence. The priest Angus moved to stop him, and died from exertion in the process. But the power of good was successful - Moray's island was sunk. The earl survived, using his black magic to breathe underwater and live forever. He would rise from the waters once every century. Anyone who was caught on the island as it sank again would be trapped with it.

In preparation of the rising on St. Angus' Day, his witch-daughter Nirka McDuff enthralled Aqualad and other students at her school. By organizing an excursion to the castle, she would recruit them for his eternal army. By pure coincidence, the Teen Titans were having an excursion to Loch Ness. They prevented the students from entering the island and snagged Aqualad away at the last second, sinking the Black Moray and Nirka for another century.

• This version of Black Moray, including all history and corresponding appearances, was erased from existence following the collapse of the original Multiverse in the 1985–86 Crisis on Infinite Earths event and later restored following the rebirth of the infinite Multiverse during the Dark Crisis of 2022–2023.
