Synopsis for "Sphere of Influence"

The next morning Director Kogney and two of his agents barge in on Travis while he was doing one-handed push ups in his room. Kogney tells Travis that he is going back to Red Clay after nearly endangering lives when he assaulted the two thugs outside his room. Travis laughs off Kogney's threat because he thinks Kogney is still griping about the embarrassing story he told about in front of the entire bureau. Agent Bell orders the two agents to stand down and asks Kogney if his threat was made official. Kogney leaves with the two agents and continues to gripe about his embarrassment.

Saffron has been putting together a profile on Rachel's stalker. From what she could determine is that each victim was between 15 and 18 but they came from neighborhoods, went to different schools and had no prior contact with one another. As Travis establishes his own profile from Saffron's notes he examines her characteristics. Travis knew right away from Saffron's clothes, sense of style and diction that she came from money but he can't understand why a privileged girl would join the FBI. Travis determines that this stalker is a metahuman that can manipulate anything electrical but rather than steal funds or secrets, this stalker has a compulsion that puts him in the spotlight.

Travis suggests they go through Rachel's daily routines in order to dig up any connections between her and the stalker. Saffron and Travis head to the local mall where Bell asks about Travis' emotional entanglement with Patricia Crosby. Travis tells Saffron that she shouldn't concern herself with it then it hits him about a possible connection. Travis tells Saffron to head towards the office of the mall manager. The manager L.T. Gorman gives Saffron a file of employee records to look over. Saffron asks Travis why she needed to get the employee records.

Travis remembered one crucial detail that was considered insignificant for all the victims. Each victim would shop at the same mall and withdraw money from the mall ATMs. Travis figures the stalker can project his consciousness into electronic equipment within range and create a sphere of influence. The mall ATMs provide the stalker with an image of his victims as well as bank account information and addresses. Travis then comes across a file for Edgar Morris, an ATM service technician who just moved from Gateway City. Saffron begins to panic because its standard protocol to document individuals who are residing in safe houses.

Edgar breaks into the Crosby home to begin his ritual routines with Rachel but then he figures out that the Crosbys are staying at a home nearby Lake Lanier. Meanwhile, Saffron tries to contact the agents in Lake Lanier but Morris has disconnected the cell towers in the area. Saffron can't understand how a metahuman would be able to crack the bureau's safe guards because every secured data bank is prepared for these contingencies. Travis suspects someone on the inside is helping Morris so he decides to tear off his tracking collar which will give him and Agent Bell a slightly bigger advantage.

As Travis and Saffron reach Lake Lanier they are cut off by Kogney and a group of agents. Kogney has made it official to have Travis sent back to prison since he has destroyed the collar which is a violation of his cooperation with the bureau. Travis and Saffron can't deal with Kogney's bruised ego so they disarm all of the agents. After leaving the agents unconscious on the road, Travis and Saffron head to the safe house where they find the agents who were assigned to the Crosbys, burnt to a crisp. Travis breaks through the front door and finds Morris holding a knife to Rachel's throat while Patricia is tied and gagged on the couch.
