Bonnie King-Jones src

Bonnie King-Jones was Miss Arrowette, a failed Green Arrow fangirl. Everything she couldn't be, she projected on her daughter Cissie, who eventually became Arrowette herself and joined Young Justice.

As a child, Bonnie was enrolled in an archery program by her domineering mother Millie, who kept a constant and strict eye on her daughter's progress. Bonnie is exceptional at the sport, even going so far as to participate in the Olympics, netting a bronze medal. Unfortunately "bronze" is not an acceptable color for Millie and the two argue at length about Bonnie's "failure" at the games. After the argument, Bonnie leaves home and archery, effectively ending all ties to her mother, leading to a permanent estrangement.

Living alone in Star City, Bonnie is inspired by the heroics of Green Arrow and Speedy and decides to revisit her archery skill under the guise of super-heroism. She makes a costume for herself and officially becomes Miss Arrowette. With an arsenal of trick arrows (such as the Powder Puff Arrow) Miss Arrowette attempts to assist her heroic idols (much to their dismay). Despite her impressive archery skills, Bonnie is no good at super-heroics, being both too clumsy for stealth and too vain for masks. During this interlude as "Miss Arrowette", Bonnie also finds time for a brief romantic affair with Oliver Queen (aka the Green Arrow).

During her brief "Arrowette" career, Bonnie meets journalist Bernell "Bowstring" Jones. Jones had followed her earlier Olympic career and considers her "Bronze" showing an achievement instead of a let-down. His thin appearance earns him the nickname "Bowstring" and a brief stint as the sidekick of "Miss Arrowette", in exchange for regular write-ups in the newspaper. Shortly thereafter, the Green Arrow asks her to give up her "Arrowette" identity and stop interfering with the work of other heroes.

A demanding secretarial job and the onset of carpal tunnel in her wrists forces Bonnie to leave archery once more. Eventually she convinces Jones (Bowstring) to marry her, and one year later gives birth to Suzanne "Cissie" King-Jones. After Jones' poisoning death, Hal Jordan (working as an agent for the company that holds Bowstring's life insurance policy) gives Bonnie and Cissie the policy's beneficiary check. This money enables Bonnie to turn her daughter into the superhero she always wanted to be. She forces her daughter into a non-stop regimen of archery lessons, judo, Kick-boxing, gymnastics, ballet, and other beneficial-to-super-heroism activities. This has caused much friction between Cissie and her mother, mirroring the conflict that ultimately led to a permanent estrangement between Bonnie and her mother.

  • Although this character was originally introduced during DC's Earth-One era of publication, their existence following the events of the 1985–86 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths remains intact. However, some elements of the character's Pre-Crisis history may have been altered or removed for Post-Crisis New Earth continuity, and should be considered apocryphal.
  • Bonnie's name is a parody or play off of Green Arrow's civilian name, Oliver Queen. Ironically so that Oliver, a man, has a last name of Queen, and Bonnie, a woman, has the last name of King.
