Boogieman or Boogeyman, is the name of several characters from the DC Universe.
The first Bogeyman was a serial killer who killed 165 people. A shortcut the killer takes brings him into contact with the Swamp Thing, who found the body of his earlier victim. So the Boogieman comes to believe that the Swamp Thing is his replacement as a killer. As he struggles to escape, the killer falls into the mud and sinks below the surface where he is tormented by the spirits of his victims as he drowns.
The second Boogeyman was Philip Sitz, an editor of the Chaste magazine and a serial killer fanboy, who posed as the first "Boogeyman" to attend the "Cereal Convention". The other killers eventually discovered his identity and he was killed by The Corinthian.
The third and main Boogieman was Martin Berger, a member of the Blood Syndicate and a bang baby with the ability to turn into a humanoid rat.
The fourth Bogeyman is an old enemy of the Teen Titans who can enter the minds of children.
Martin Berger was created by Dwayne McDuffie, Ivan Velez, Jr. and James Fry, first appearing in Blood Syndicate #2 (1993). Bogeyman was created by Alan Moore, first appearing in Swamp Thing (Volume 2) #44 (1986). Philip Sitz was created by Neil Gaiman, first appearing in Sandman (Volume 2) #14 (1990). Bogeyman was created by James Robinson, first appearing in Justice League of America (Volume 2) #49 (2010).
