History

The Book of Old Gotham is a handwritten book which is primarily a biography of the colonial era woman Amity Arkham written by her closest friend Alienor Frych in 1662 after Amity was burned as a witch by other colonial era Gothamites. The book was written for Amity's daughter Beatrix to let her get to know her mom and calls to task Amity's killers including Edmunde Cobblepot, Rowland Dent, Winnifride Dent, Elizabeth Dent, and Robert Dent by name. It also contains words of power such as the spell to summon Amity's vengeful ghost which makes it a much sought after item. The Fritch family was entrusted with guardianship of the book and spent generations seeking it after it was lost.

For decades the book remained hidden beneath Gotham Academy until Pomeline Fritch, following clues discovered by the Detective Club and those her father had unearthed in his search for the book, rediscovered its hiding place in the secret tunnels under Gotham Academy. She was followed by Mister Scarlett who knocked her out and took the book as he sought the power it contained, only for his attempt to summon Amity to eliminate Pom and Colton Rivera as witnesses to backfire when Amity recognized Pom as a friend due to the amulet her father left her.
