The Brotherhood of Evil is old news. Evil, well, it's a complicated thing. Seventy years ago, I wanted to rule the world. After Caulder defeated me, I would've stopped at nothing to kill him and erase his legacy. But now... now, all I wanna do is take this metal body and live a life of indulgence in sunny Boca Raton.

The Brain was a cruel, arrogant, and self-indulgent supervillain genius and the founder and former leader of the Brotherhood of Evil. A human brain in a specialized tank, he was the sworn nemesis of Niles Caulder, and later the Doom Patrol.
History
Brotherhood of Evil
In 1917, the arrogant Brain and his partner, the intelligent and petty gorilla Monsieur Mallah, were able to make a sketch of a time machine they saw that traveled from 2021. They reverse-engineered it into their own, and around it founded the Brotherhood of Evil, an organization dedicated to world domination.[2]

The Brotherhood of Evil
Over time, the pair became enemies of mad scientist Niles Caulder, who vowed to stop them at any cost. The Brotherhood fought him on several occasions, and eventually resorted to working with Nazi scientist Heinrich Von Fuchs, alien conqueror Garguax, and the sly and treacherous shapeshifter Madame Rouge, who they sent in their time machine to 2021 to steal Caulder's inventions for them, in order to stop him.[1][3][4]
In the 1950s, Caulder became the leader of a small superhero team known as the Doom Patrol, and together, they fought the Brotherhood several times. In 1957, the Doom Patrol defeated the Brotherhood at long last, forcing the Brain and Mallah into retirement in Boca Raton, Florida, where they remained for decades. Over the years, the Brain never lost his cruel or arrogant nature, but he became more self-indulgent, longing for a body and a life he thought he would never have.[1][5]
Stealing Cliff Steele's body
In 2021, Madame Rouge arrived from the past, but since she lost her memory, she was unable to complete her original mission. When she recovered it, she had been discovered by the legacy of the now deceased Caulder, a group of people who had been test subjects in Caulder's experiments in immortality, and found that they were trying to kill her. She made her way to Boca Raton, where she enlisted the help of the Brain and Mallah. She used her abilities to infiltrate Caulder's group, kidnapping Cliff Steele, a human brain in a robot body, for the Brain to transfer himself into.

"It's a good day to be the Brain."
When the Brain was transferred into Cliff's body, he betrayed Rouge and tried to kill her, leaving her for dead in the forest with Cliff's brain in a jar. He then went out to live a life of indulgence with his new body, unaware that the rest of Caulder's test subjects were coming to kill him and Mallah.[5]
While the Brain was enjoying his new body on a golf course, Rouge arrived with Cliff in Rog, a giant robot used by the Brotherhood which she had found in the forest. She used it to step on the Brain, crushing him and destroying much of his new body. Using what was left of it, he crawled back to his resort home, where he found Rita Farr, Rouge's nemesis one of Caulder's test subjects that the Brain had instructed Garguax to kill, waiting for him, and that Mallah had left him in order to escape the Brain's desire to rule the world.

Rita kills the Brain
Defeated, the Brain tried to bargain with Rita, offering her revenge against Madame Rouge if he helped her rebuild his body, but a vengeful Rita opted instead to remove the top of his head and pour scalding hot tea on his exposed brain, killing him.[6]
