What did I tell you men? Those sentimental fools didn't fire upon us, because they believe our ingenius machine is their living pet!
- — The Brain src
The Brain was an inventor of fantastic devices which he used for crime. He was killed in an encounter with the Blackhawks.
History
The Brain emerged as a super criminal in 1957, when he built an enormous artificial bird and used it to steal a series of large heavy vehicles, including a submarine. For a time, he duped the Blackhawks into believing that this incredible vehicle was their own mascot, Blackie, artificially expanded by a radiation treatment. He also captured and caged Blackie to keep the bird from tipping off the Blackhawks. But after the treatment should have worn off and the monster bird didn't return to normal size or stop committing crimes, the Blackhawks belatedly figured out what was going on. They tracked down the Brain's giant hawk and attacked his secret lair, right about the same time that Blackie was outsmarting the Brain's gang, escaping, and attacking them within their own villainous machine. Blackie escaped before it crashed, killing the Brain and his crew.
