Lady Luck was a debutante crime buster aiming to become a "modern lady Robin Hood."

Brenda Banks became bored of her socialite life and took on the alias of Lady Luck to fight crime, unbeknownst to anyone, including her friends, family, bodyguard Peecolo, and the man trying to court her, Count Raoul DiChange.[2] However, the count would quickly become smitten with Brenda's alter ego, Lady Luck.

Brenda pushed for the count to join the United States military to help fight the war, but he was continuously turned down for health reasons. He tried to support the war effort by buying war stamps, but Lady Luck discovered an imposter taking advantage of him. She uncovered the gang of scammers and turned them against each other and took them down.[3]

While she supported the early war efforts, she kept her attention on crime in America, founding the all female Lady Luck Patrol and singling out criminals like Tony Nitro, whom she would later take down.[4] During her investigations, she would also often work with a begrudging Sgt. Sloburn, a policeman tired of superhero vigilantes making the police look bad.[5]

One criminal she had arrested was Moxy Bismark, who managed to deduce that Brenda Banks and Lady Luck were one and the same and attempted to blackmail the socialite. She summoned the blonde-haired Lady Luck Patrol member Daphne Dymple to pose as Lady Luck and together with Peecolo (Daphne's secret admirer), the three took down Bismark.[1]

Abilities

  • Lady Luck first appeared in the Spirit newspaper comic by Will Eisner in 1940 and was licensed by Quality Comics starting in 1943.
  • The Lady Luck series ran in Smash Comics from #42 to #85, as indexed in this database. Starting with the December 1949 issue, #86, the other regular features dropped out, and the former anthology comic changed titles, to become Lady Luck, and continued under that title until issue #90. Those five issues are not indexed here, as Lady Luck was a character licensed, not owned, by Quality Comics, thus DC Comics does not own the publication rights for this character.
  • The count attempting to court Lady Luck went through several different name changes, from "Count Dechange" to "Count D. Change" to "Count DiChange." His first name, "Raoul" was first mentioned by a Lady Luck impersonator.[3]
