Quote1 I just wanted to go home. To Bludhaven. First place that's ever been... mine. And see Brenda. My friend. She's... kind. Truly. Quote2
Cassandra Cain src

Brenda Miller is a friend of Cassandra Cain who lives in Blüdhaven. She is a cynical young woman who owns a struggling café, which she inherited from her father.

Past

There was an unsavory part of her past that she did not like talking about, and which seedy realtors tried to use to manipulate her into deals regarding her café, since she owned the building.[1]

Batgirl of Blüdhaven

When Cassandra Cain, the secret vigilante Batgirl, moved to Bludhaven to fill the vacuum left by the out-of-commission Nightwing, she met her associate and friend Alfred Pennyworth in Brenda's Café. Due to their secretive conversation and Pennyworth's gift of money, Brenda got the wrong idea that Cassandra was a call girl, though she later apologized for the assumption.[2][1]

After a close brush with death, Cassandra visited Brenda's café to eat; Brenda discovered that she cannot read, after she asked if they serve an item that is clearly written on a large sign in front of her. After she helped Cassandra order food and gave it to her for free out of concern for her health, Cassandra came to see Brenda in a kind light and missed her when she was away from Bludhaven on missions.[3][4]

At Cassandra's secret request, the Wayne Foundation offered a grant for Brenda's cafe so that she would no longer be held back by debt, which she excitedly accepted. To celebrate, she threw a large party and invited Cassandra. Unfortunately, an assassin arrived in Blüdhaven to kill Batgirl and razed the home of Brenda's friends and fellow business owners to lure her out. Brenda tried to rescue them, but was held back by partygoers.[5]

On Father's Day, Brenda and Cassandra discussed what the holiday meant for them, as neither of them had good fathers. Brenda inquired about where Cassandra's parents are from, piquing Cassandra's curiosity about her unknown mother and leading her to confront her incarcerated father David Cain. When she was unable to get answers, she set off to uncover the mystery on her own, asking Brenda to care for her potted plant while she is away; however, Cassandra never returned.[6]

Infinite Crisis

During yet another near-death experience, a defeated Cassandra hallucinated a destroyed Blüdhaven and a deceased Brenda, having been killed during the Society's attack on the city. Despite being a vision during unconsciousness, it is most likely that Brenda's death actually occurred, as the events described were real and Cassandra had no other way of knowing about it.[7]

Abilities

  • Brenda has a spider tattoo on her lower back, and a spider web tattoo on her left elbow.[2]
  • It is implied that she once served time in prison.[1]
