Savant was a member of the Suicide Squad.
History
The team Savant was in was captured and tortured for information on the Squad. It was actually a test of loyalty by Amanda Waller, which Savant seemingly failed. He cracked under the torture and revealed what he knew. As punishment, he was dragged off to his apparent death.[1]
In reality, Savant had been a plant by Waller, who had orchestrated his supposed betrayal in exchange for a significantly reduced sentence. He was assigned a final mission before his release, the recovery of rogue Squad member Harley Quinn, during which he clashed with team leader Deadshot.[2] Together, the two of them stormed the Gotham City Police Department precinct in which she was held, refraining from killing the officers as they made their search. Savant found and fought with Quinn until she led him into stepping on a pressure mine, forcing him to stand in place to prevent its detonation.[3]
Deadshot was able to take out Quinn, and the Squad returned to their headquarters at Belle Reve, where Savant refused an offer by Amanda Waller to make him the voluntary leader of the Suicide Squad, instead choosing freedom so long as he kept the team's existence a secret.[4]
