Briar Rose, the Sleeping Beauty, is a Fable princess.

Briar Rose was born in the Kingdom of Seppantyre to a king and queen who had had difficulty conceiving. As such, when she was finally born, there was a great celebration, which was attended by all manner of fantastic creatures, including the fairies of the Twilight Lands, who were to become her godmothers.[1] Each of the fairies bestowed a gift onto Briar Rose (some more useful than others), but one fairy was not invited. Hadeon the Destroyer felt slighted that she was not invited, and vowed to curse the child. She waited until it was nearly midnight, and then crashed the party. Despite the gifts of the other fairies, Hadeon would cut them all short by cursing Briar Rose to prick her finger on a spinning wheel, and die.[2] This curse was tempered, however, by Leysa the defender. Though she could not undo the curse, she changed it so that when Briar Rose pricked her finger, she and everyone around her would fall into a sleep that could only end as a result of True Love's kiss.

Though Briar Rose was eventually wakened by Prince Charming, the curse continued to hold. Every time she pricked her finger, she and everyone around her would fall asleep. This would later be used to great effect as a weapon. On one recent occasion, she had been used to put the Snow Queen to sleep, and both had been wakened by Ali Baba. Inadvertently, putting the Snow Queen to sleep had allowed her to remain in stasis long enough for a loyalty potion administered by Geppetto to wear off.[3]

Powers

  • Enchanted sleep: When Briar Rose pricks her finger with a needle she, and every other living being in the building she is in will fall into a deep sleep. Within a few minutes of the sleep starting, rose thorns will grow around the building. Only the kiss of a prince who truly cares for her will be able to end the spell.
  • Perpetual Wealth: One of the fairy enchantments Briar Rose received as a child was for her to always be wealthy. As such she can become rich very quickly and easily. It has been speculated that even if she were to give all her money away she would win the lottery the next day.

Weaknesses

  • The enchanted sleep begins with her. In order to effect others Briar Rose must put herself under the enchantment.
