Batman was a bat-themed vigilante and lover of Catwoman. However, his life ended on Fool's Night, when he died in battle against Joker.
History
At some point, Alfred Pennyworth contracted terminal cancer. Using an Orpheus Pit, a hybrid of a Lazarus Pit and Venom that had none of the negative side-effects of its components, Bruce was able to heal Alfred. However, the Orpheus Pit was only good for a week, and Alfred died.[1]
On the eve of the fateful Fool's Night, Batman was speaking to Catwoman as they watched Robin capture the Royal Flush Gang. After receiving condolences about Alfred's death, Batman said he couldn't let himself be distracted by the idea of life after the cowl, but expressed that when he did let himself fantasize, Catwoman was there.[2] However, their moment was ruined by alerts of Joker's final gambit. Confronting Joker on the rooftops of the GCPD with Catwoman, the clown revealed he had tied Commissioner Gordon to the Bat-Signal, and if it were turned on, Joker would call off his followers at the cost of Gordon's life. Trying to save Gordon, Batman fell into a trap and killed the commissioner instead. Tackling Joker, he was fatally wounded by a suicide bomb on the clown's flower lapel. [1] In his dying breaths, Batman tried to tell Catwoman to take him to the Orpheus Pit, but she was arrested before she could figure out what he meant.[3]
