Bruce Wayne is the Gotham City-based vigilante known as Batman, considered to be "the world's greatest detective". He is a member of the Justice League and has mentored younger heroes like Robin and Batgirl. His hound Ace also assists him in crime-fighting.
History
Long before Bruce became Batman, he spent years studying the skills he would need to fight crime. One of his teachers was Harvey Harris, a renowned detective. At that time, Bruce was just a kid in a mask, wearing a prototype of the Robin suit. Harris also had a group of meddling kids under his belt, and with their partnership, Bruce and Harris took down Gotham Organized Crime during one of Hugo Strange's auctions. This team-up inspired Bruce fight crime as a costumed crusader, like Commander Cool, and to one day create the Bat-Family.[1]
Several years later, long after stablishing himself as Gotham's dark knight, Batman still kept contact with the Mystery Inc., requesting their help to fight crimes and solve mysteries.
Batman and his sidekick Robin bumped into Mystery, Inc. as tracking down Man-Bat out of Gotham City. The teen detectives helped him find and turn Man-Bat back to normal as well as stopping a gang of bat-masked robbers. The Dynamic Duo were impressed enough with them that Robin invited them to the next Mystery Analysts of Gotham City Meeting, and Batman recommended them to Diana of Wonder Woman when the Amazon needed to a supernatural expert detective. He also thought of calling them when a group of villains masking as ghosts sneaked into the Hall of Justice.
In gratefulness for their collaboration in the Man-Bat case, Batman and Robin decided to help them find who provided gangs of crooks with costumes and gadgets to pose as ghosts: The Spook and False Face. What should have been a pretty simple case became an annoying, life-risking affair when Bat-Mite turned up to have fun.
