Burgess Meredith (b. November 16, 1907 – d.September 9, 1997) was an American character actor who portrayed the Penguin on Batman and in Batman: The Movie.

Burgess Meredith was a prolific American character actor with a career in film and television that spanned more than six decades. He is best remembered for his performances as the Penguin on the 1966 TV series Batman and in the tie-in film, Batman: The Movie, and Mickey Goldmill in Rocky and its sequels, but he had many other notable roles in high profile films and series, including Of Mice and Men, The Twilight Zone, and Clash of the Titans.
