Synopsis for "Powerless"

At the European Headquarters of the Justice League, the Leaguers discuss about the depowered Captain Atom. They are still appreciative of the Captain even without his powers as his tactical skills in leading the team has prove his worth. They have also been deceiving the public to believe Captain Atom is still empowered in order to prevent any of the Captain's old enemies or any super-villain trying to make a name for themselves by making an attempt on his life.

Captain Atom consult with Catherine Cobert on the possibility of regaining his powers. However, Catherine finds his condition to be most likely permanent. She tries to reassure Nathaniel that he is still a worthy hero no different from the League's non-powered members.

Meanwhile, Thomas Emery confronts Theresa Delgado to complain about his paycheck being cut by General Eiling. Emery's complaints goes unheeded and he is thrown out of Eiling's office by Martin Allard.

Dr. Megala continues his examination of the Silver Shield object. So far, the object continues to shrink but the quantum pulse that's been jamming Captain Atom's powers still remains.

Dr. Megala's colleague Anton Sarrok has escaped the Damon Clinic with Homer Lockleed. Due to Homer's ties to his father's company, Sarrok and Homer takes a biplane to fly to Silver Shield's location.

Emery eventually learns about Captain Atom's powerless condition and sees an opportunity. He travels to Paris and kidnaps Catherine and hypnotizing her before transmitting a ransom note to the JLE Embassy, where Nathaniel and Sue Dibny are only present. Nathaniel urges Sue not to call the League as he knows Emery only want to face him and will kill Catherine if he suspects interference.

Captain Atom travels to the location for the ransom specified by Emery. He is blindsided by Emery, who is now donning in his Doctor Spectro costume. Spectro then uses his technology to hypnotize the Captain. However, Nathaniel rebuffed Spectro's hypnotism as he has come prepared with shaded contact lenses under his mask. Nathaniel beats up Emery before forcing him to take him to Catherine's location.

Back in the States, Sarrok and Homer are detained by MPs after they were discovered trespassing in the Silver Shield facility. Megala convinces General Eiling in letting Sarrok access to the Silver Shield. As Sarrok approaches the object, a beam of energy channels from the object to Sarrok's head and causing him to remember "twenty-two years ago." The Silver Shield also stopped glowing.

Captain Atom and Spectro arrives to the latter's hideout and finding Catherine strapped under a machine, which is a fail-safe termination device as explained by Spectro. At the same time of Sarrok's connection with the Silver Shield, Captain Atom regains his powers and he immediately destroys the machine and saving Catherine.

Captain Atom soon returns to America and confronts Eiling, Megala, and Sarrok, demanding answers on Silver Shield.
