Hmmm! Now I'm sure something's wrong. Carkle really hates animals! No man with his dislike of animals could ever gain any affection from them! I'll let Freddy follow him home! Then he won't suspect he's been followed!

Synopsis for Capt. Marvel Jr.: "Capt. Marvel, Jr. For Mayor"

Publisher of the Evening Star PT Crumpet is out on the streets with Freddy Freeman, showing him an article from last month when they busted Mr. Blackheart and his Hooded Horrors, a terrorist gang that assaulted people in the night to install Blackheart as their gangland puppet for Mayoral Candidacy. However, the problem continues that now people are too suspicious of the other two candidates, despite them both being honest men. To that end, Crumpet wants Freddy to recruit Captain Marvel, Jr. into getting people out, not to take sides, but to just insist that people listen to policies and vote who they think is best. Freddy softly agrees to “tell him about it” being at 8:00pm. That evening, he steps out from a late dinner to go to the rally and calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Captain Marvel, Jr. He soon gives a rousing speech that both Judge Whitehead and Commissioner Pate are both honest and decent men who have just as much right to be Mayor, but they should at least vote. However, everyone instead agrees that Captain Marvel, Jr. is the best option to vote for, despite him being too young to be a viable candidate. He soon flies out, feeling uncomfortable at their appeals. Freddy soon shrugs as to where he’s gone to, but the rally had turned into a spontaneous campaign parade march. Comm. Pate’s campaign manager, Ward J Heeler, is upset that this isn’t going to get Pate sold and decides they need dirt on the World’s Mightiest Boy! He sends a goon named Shorty to get some “news photos” from the Gazette.

The next day, a huge billboard goes up of a doctored picture of Captain Marvel, Jr. stealing candy from a baby, but Freddy explains to an onlooker that this was due to it being a poisoned candy. The man says that may hurt his image, but Freddy says he isn’t running anyways. Later, a new one is put up showing Captain Marvel, Jr. punching out what they claim is an “innocent old lady,” though Freddy notes that’s actually Sivana, Jr. in disguise trying to blow up a children’s home. Finally, the goons put up a picture of Junior breaking into a safe at the Farmer Bank with a huge bag of money in his hand, but Freddy corrects that he’s putting the money back in the safe. Comm. Pate is aghast to hear the rumors and says he’s not voting for him, but Judge Whitehead soon announces that if he can’t win without smearing the other candidates, he’ll withdraw. Mr. Heeler sees this as a plus and decides to start a campaign to turn kids against Captain Marvel, Jr. At home though, his son points out he loves Captain Marvel, Jr., but he respects his father’s decision all the same. Mr. Heeler offers he and his friends go on a hay wagon in the Torchlight Parade that night, which he doesn’t see has a giant sign that says US KIDS SAY DOWN WITH CAPT. MARVEL, JR. until the hay wagon lights on fire. The horses bolt and Freddy, watching nearby, calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Junior once more, ripping up one of the anti-Junior banners to drag the kids to safety on it. Heeler comes out publicly that he was wrong about Junior and trying to smear him and Pate, aghast, resigns from the race. Later, Junior offers that people vote for the only remaining candidate, Judge Whitehead, who naturally wins soon enough. Freddy is relieved that he’s not having to be involved in politics.

Synopsis for Capt. Marvel, Jr.: "Capt. Marvel, Jr. and The Escape at the Zoo!"

Freddy Freeman is at the City Zoo when a lady’s dog, Blackie, jumps on him. She apologizes, but Freddy is fine with animals and enjoys learning about them at the nonspecific Zoo in the City that he lives in. Suddenly, an elephant breaks free from its pen and Freddy calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Captain Marvel, Jr. to whip it on to its back by the trunk, then into his pen again. Two zoo trustees, Mr. Hodd and Mr. Todd, apologize, but are confused as to why Jumbo the Elephant would break free anyways. Similarly, a large grizzly bear manages to climb out of its cage, forcing Junior to fly it back in. The trustees foist the blame on Jonathan Carkle, the former Director of the zoo who was fired yesterday for mistreating animals. Carkle insists that “the animals won’t stay without me!” Junior watches closely as Carkle tells Bouncer the Kangaroo that he’s been fired and offers him a peanut. Soon enough, Bouncer leaps over the end of his pen and escapes into oncoming traffic until Junior flies after it and punches it to knock it out and drag it back to the zoo as well. The trustees say they’ll “think it over” and Carkle leaves the zoo but he makes sure to kick Blackie the Dog the second he’s outside, which Junior sees him do. He follows him back to his house as Freddy Freeman and finds his address on his mailbox of his building. He soon sneaks into his room and finds a small white box, only to be knocked out by Mr. Carkle, waking up bound and gagged with Gigantia, the most ferocious gorilla of the City Zoo. However, Gigantia just pulls his gag off and calls CAPTAIN MARVEL so he can step politely away as Captain Marvel, Jr. who then punches over Carkle. The former zoo Director admits that he basically doped the animals with powerful steroids to make them 20x stronger than normal to make it seem like they were highly desperate for him to escape for “his sake.” Junior assures them that Carkle will have his own cage… in jail!

Synopsis for Capt. Marvel, Jr.: "Capt. Marvel, Jr. and The Pirates of '48"

A ferry boat Captain is in the pilot house on the river, noting that there’s lot of fog, but he knows the river, only to be suddenly attacked by the singing “Pirate” Pete. Later, Freddy gets news in the Evening Star that a ferry disappeared lately and decides to look into it by calling CAPTAIN MARVEL to become Captain Marvel, Jr. He flies through the fog to the Ferry Terminal where Officer Jim is already looking around. He notes the ferry hasn’t returned for a half-hour and Junior isn’t really sure what to do. Later, the Captain of the Ferry says he was blindfolded and goons stole all of the cars on the ferry and Officer Jim says that the pirates probably do this whenever gets foggy. The next morning, Freddy feels shame that Junior wasn’t able to solve it just yet.

A week later, Officer Jim and his partner, Smith, are set to guard the ferry on deck while the rest of the cops stay below deck in the engine room. However, Pirate Pete is listening in on this. Freddy is hanging around since it’s really foggy and he’s suspicious something is up. However, Pirate Pete and his pirates are working out of the back of a Moving and Storage truck and then locks the other cops in the engine room. While heading back to the deck, he finds that Freddy has been knocked out and dragged on deck too. He ties him up and leaves him with his back against the door, which is worse since the cops are trying to fire their way out. He wakes up to hearing potshots firing near his ears and calls CAPTAIN MARVEL to have Junior rip the door off its hinges. Pirate Pete soon seizes the bridge and starts singing a Yo Ho Ho sort of song before Junior punches him out and Officer Jim and the rest of the cops arrest the pirates.

  • Despite the cover, "Pirate" Pete's pirates have no large ship (seemingly working out of an unseen motorboat) and don't have a large treasure to bury on land. If anything, we never see them on land at all.
