Synopsis for "Capt. Marvel Joins the Army"
When Billy's friend Whitey Murphy joins the Army, Billy tries to join too, but is too young, so he changes to Captain Marvel and enlists, under the name "M. R. Vell." He turns down a commission and promotion to high rank, and spends his brief time in the Army as a Private. Before even finishing boot camp, Whitey is promoted to First Sergeant thanks to instruction from Marvel. His boot camp company's drill instructor is Sgt. Martz, a Nazi infiltrator. Martz and his crew kidnap Billy Batson, and attempt to exploit him for propoganda purposes, which Billy encourages by feigning amnesia. Billy and Whitey call in some real troops, who round up the spies, then Billy is summoned to General Headquarters, where Billy is very surprised to learn that this unit's commanding officer is old Shazam himself, whom Billy has believed to be dead ever since their first meeting. Shazam instructs Billy to return to civilian life, and produces paperwork that transfers Pvt. Vell to special service -- out of uniform.

Trivia
- Unlike the enlistments of the individual JSA members,[1][2], on Earth-Two, the story of Captain Marvel's enlistment contains no internal evidence of it having happened in December 1941, in the immediate aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack.
