Synopsis for "The Mirage Menace"

Billy and Sterling Morris are driving through the desert and stop to gas up, only to find out the entire gas station is an illusion created by a machine used by the suspicious man running the station. He conjures an illusion of a blizzard, then of a man being chased by a giant lizard to give Captain Marvel the slip. He goes on to bilk people with imaginary gold, tollbooths and houses conjured by his machine. Eventually, Marvel gets the last laugh on him by creating a giant lens to project the image of a town from miles away. When the Mirage Maker stops to carry out another of his schemes, he's disoriented enough by no-one reacting to him that he doesn't realize his attempts to hide from Marvel won't work because the buildings aren't really there.

Synopsis for "Captain Marvel Fights the Unholy Spider"

Deranged Dr. Brewler tests the formula that's the result of his labors, and turns from a man into a spider. He uses this ability to sneak into the home of the dean who was about to fire him, and gives him a fatal injection. This greatly puzzles Captain Marvel after the dean dies despite being rushed to the hospital, because the poison was not spider venom. The hero goes to Professor Edgewise's house to deliver the bad news, only to catch a spider trying to give him an injection with a tiny hypodermic. Marvel flies after it but when he pounces on the antagonistic arachnid, finds Dr. Brewler in his hands instead, and leaves the man alone in confusion. Brewler finds his changes coming without drinking any of his potion, however, and when Marvel reads about his disappearance, the hero decides to wait in his lab for Brewler to come by and try to concoct an antidote. Brelwer dives through a window to escape, turning into a spider again in the process. He meets his end when a female spider sees him and devours him.

Its passengers are an exploratory expedition from a super-advanced race that lived on Earth 4 million years ago, and agree to help Sivana take over the world as he claims to be its rightful ruler and a proponent of peace. When Captain Marvel shows up to arrest Sivana, one of them blasts him with a gun that turns the hero as insubstantial as a ghost. That seen to, the First People show Sivana a machine that broadcasts telepathic messages, which he sets to make everyone in the world bow down to him. Marvel changes back to Billy, who's still solid, and breaks the machine. Sivana tries to shoot him, but the First People spot Sivana about to shoot a boy, and realize he lied to them.
