Captain Marvel Adventures #54 is an issue of the series Captain Marvel Adventures (Volume 1) with a cover date of February, 1946.

Synopsis for "Sivana Plots Again"

Billy's on edge because Sivana's escaped from jail again, and wonders what the mad scientist will cook up this time. While walking around he finds a crime in progress, and transforms to Captain Marvel to intervene, only to run into a second Captain Marvel, also intervening! After the petty crook is captured, Captain Marvel confronts his double, who can give and take a punch as well as he can. When Captain Marvel proposes to determine who the real one is by changing back to Billy, his doppelganger shoves the boy into a bag and carries him off to a secret hideout. He turns out to be Sivana in a robot suit, having decided that he always fails because Captain Marvel's working against him, so this time Captain Marvel's going to help him! Sivana's also built a Billy Batson robot who goes on the air and announces that Sivana's fled the country to lull the authorities into a false sense of security.

Sivana uses a tank to breech the walls of a prison and recruit the inmates as a criminal army to conquer the city. While they rampage, he flies about in his Marvel robot suit performing extremely minor heroics instead of dealing with the criminals. Meanwhile, Billy has managed to hook his gag on the outstretched finger of the Billy-robot. When Sivana returns, he finds Captain Marvel waiting for him, who arrests him. To taunt the villain, Marvel brings his throne and crown, and declares Sivana the rightful ruler of his cell.

Synopsis for "Station WHIZ Goes Television!"

The station is getting ready to do televised broadcasting for the first time, and the casting director for their first performance is at his wit's end because all the performers either look great but have no talent, or are talented but completely unphotogenic. One of the rejected performers is a Pietro Laryngeo, who tries to shoot Billy when the station's star announcer gets in front of the camera. Billy transforms, but the casting director refuses to let Captain Marvel go after the perpetrator now that they have the celebrated hero in the booth! Marvel can't act or tell jokes, but his singing makes the piano lady swoon, and convinces the casting director they've found the perfect niche for him. The good captain's many female admirers are clamoring for his first appearance as a singer, much to the bashful hero's chagrin. Laryngeo, trying to humiliate Marvel, gives him a spiked glass of water that gives him laryngitis so he can't sing...to his relief!
