Shazam convinces Roroy to do a ride-along with Captain Marvel in hopes of showing him some kind of redeeming value in the human character, but Roroy remains skeptical. Eventually they come upon a reformed bank robber who's fallen back in with his old gang. He called in an anonymous tip so the gang would be caught, and he could let himself be shot by police so his girlfriend could get his life insurance policy. Seeing a man willing to stand for justice and die in the name of love at the same time, Roroy decides mankind might have potential after all.

Synopsis for "The 13th Guest"

Billy's invited to a housewarming party at Sterling Morris' new country place, and notices a thirteenth guest he didn't see coming in, who introduces himself to the boy reporter as Mr. Ghoss. That night a thief dressed as a ghost tries to rob one of the other guests, and escapes Captain Marvel via secret passages in the old house. The disguised thief is confronted by Mr. Ghoss, who he tries to shoot, but as Ghoss points out when the thief asks why he won't die, "I am dead!" Between Ghoss and Captain Marvel the fake ghost is unmasked, and Ghoss is free to stop haunting the house. 50 years ago he'd been the 13th guest on Friday the 13th, and his spirit had been bound to the house until there was another gathering of 13 people. They had to get rid of the criminal, though, because counting Captain Marvel, there were 14 people in the house.
