Synopsis for Captain Marvel: "Captain Marvel and the Lionizing of Mr. Tawny"

Billy Batson is hanging out at Mr. Tawny’s house when he gets in a ton of fan mail from fans sending him prospective first names. Among the letters, he finds a letter from Gordon De Boom, a Hollywood producer from Epic Studios, who wants to give him a contract to play a tiger in a motion picture! Mr. Tawny is shy at the idea, but Billy insists he shouldn’t throw out the chance of a lifetime. Billy encourages him by driving him to the airport, but finds that they can’t get a plane out to Hollywood, so instead he calls SHAZAM to summon Captain Marvel, who flies him there on his back. Once there, they find that there’s a giant banner and a crowd out for his attention and Gordon de Boom welcomes him with effervescent energy. Mr. Tawny tries to divert some attention by pointing out the World’s Mightiest Mortal is there, but Gordon seems less than interesting in him whatsoever than seeing Mr. Tawny, the intelligent tiger and sweeps him off to set. Captain Marvel is pleasantly surprised. Soon enough, Gordon drives them out to the set of their new hit film set for Jungle Jeopardy and introduces him to Flavian Bitterstone, an “animal impersonator” who is a notorious ham. Mr. Tawny points out that he’s not that realistic and Gordon immediately fires him, revealing this is the job he wants Mr. Tawny for. Bitterstone removes his tiger mask and grumbles, calling them peasants and wishing them bad luck. Mr. Tawny soon does a very professional pounce as Captain Marvel relaxes for once. Bitterstone tries to get revenge by replacing the blanks in the rifle with real bullets. Captain Marvel and Mr. Tawny luckily realize that they aren’t blanks when one wings into a tree, chipping a piece off and Captain Marvel ruins the shot to protect his friend. Despite this, Gordon just shoos him away, telling him to basically get lost. Captain Marvel decides it was probably Bitterstone as Gordon drives them to Mr. Tawny’s new house, a palatial estate that Gordon casually purchased for him. Mr. Tawny tries to go to bed, but Gordon presses him that there’s the night life to see and Mr. Tawny is fawned over soon by socialites as Captain Marvel laughs at the lionizing of a tiger!

Bitterstone tries to push a giant vase on to Mr. Tawny, only for Captain Marvel to fly in and smash it, earning Mr. Tawny a kiss from the woman he pulled out of the way of it. Captain Marvel finds that Bitterstone has escaped into the darkness. Over the next few days, Hollywood is alight with Mr. Tawny fever and we see a series of promotional pictures and him being swamped by autograph hounds later. Mr. Tawny heads home being incredibly tired as Captain Marvel offers he can head home soon when the film wraps. Unfortunately, Mr. Tawny has a nightmare of being attacked by a green crowd that looks like all of his fans, while Captain Marvel catches Bitterstone trying to lob a bomb into Mr. Tawny’s window, dropping it harmlessly in the pool outside. After some time, the big movie is released at the Browman’s Siamese Theatre. Outside, they go to get his footprints in cement, but we see nearby Bitterstone used quick-drying cement, trapping his feet in it. Captain Marvel punches out Bitterstone and pops Mr. Tawny loose from the cement, which is only then that Gordon decides he’s interested in him. With his work done, Mr. Tawny relaxes at his palatial estate in a bathrobe, deciding he’s going to relax and go look at those naming letters for himself as Captain Marvel mocks Gordon’s “sensational” sort of personality.

Synopsis for Captain Marvel: "Captain Marvel and the Curse of the Evil Eye!"

Reginald Vanderpool is a man of wealth, position, honor and respect and has no reason to commit crimes. This is strange because we see Billy then immediately accuse him of having snatched a display necktie at the department store, then calls SHAZAM to summon Captain Marvel who recognizes him. He asks why he’d steal something like that, only for Vanderpool to be cagey as to why he dd so. A manager walks over and says this was likely a joke of some kind and that they won’t press any charges, naturally. Vanderpool is worried that he doesn’t know why he did this, but Captain Marvel only offers he should take things easier. Only a short while later though, Vanderpool has a sudden impulse to try to stick someone up with a finger in his pocket pretend it’s a gun, which Captain Marvel catches him do, making him believe that he’s pulling some kind of sick rich people game, but Vanderpool swears that he can’t explain why he did it or why he keeps doing this. Around a corner, we’re shown an old man with few teeth, and a black hat, and he’s definitely evil, since “Patcheye” Pachog was sent in for a dime in jail because Vanderpool testified against him! To revenge himself, Pachog is going to ruin the good name of Reginald Vanderpool by using long-range hypnotic powers hidden behind his eyepatched eye, which are forcing him to commit crimes! Doing so, Vanderpool is hypnotized into lighting a fire with a pack of matches. Captain Marvel flies in and knocks him away from the small trash fire (made, of course, from waste paper!) then douses it by dumping a large can of ashes on it (it is not clear where he got this from.) Captain Marvel is upset at the continued minor criminality and tells him that arson is a bit more of a crime, so he’s just taking him to the police. Vanderpool begins to assume he’s probably haunted and Pachog grumbles furiously that Captain Marvel stopped him from committing a more serious crime. Captain Marvel insists the Judge, being in favor with him, will give him nothing more than a heavy fine, but it still makes the headlines of the Daily Star that he’s committed minor crimes and then paid for it. He loses out when he’s uninvited to Mrs. Gaylord’s fancy society ball, which sends Vanderpool into a depressive spiral, admitting that he has “bad blood” because his ancestor was once a horse thief and that a curse on his family continues now! Captain Marvel rightly identifies this as entirely nonsense, feigning that he intends to go home, hanging back. Soon, Pachog tries to use the evil eye on him again to hypnotize Vanderpool into pulling a robbery at a jewelry store, which he does. Nearby, Billy is the one watching this, suspecting someone else is involved in this and has been tailing Vanderpool. Following him, he sees Pachog using the evil eye on him, intending to finish him off by hypnotizing him into killing someone. When Billy tries to call SHAZAM though, Pachog spots him and orders him to kill him, then uses the evil eye to command Billy into the room to let Vanderpool shoot him with a revolver Pachog puts in his hand, laughing how he’ll get the chair for this. Luckily, Vanderpool hasn’t ever used a gun before and wings it between Pachog and Billy, the sound of the report awakening Billy from the trance to call SHAZAM and summon Captain Marvel once more. Pachog tries to grab the gun and fire at him, but only yields predictable results before Captain Marvel punches him in the jaw. Vanderpool recognizes Pachog as the man he put away so long ago and Captain Marvel points out the obvious plan that he intended to drive him mad due to the family curse. Later, Vanderpool has been cleared of all charges, which Billy reads about in the paper, while Vanderpool says he’ll pay for anything he purchases this time!

Synopsis for Captain Marvel: "Captain Marvel Becomes a Jinx"

Captain Marvel is at the annual Captain Marvel Day celebration in the small town of Binkville, which proves he’s so popular that two men get into a fender bender and a subsequent protracted argument. Captain Marvel smooths things over by punching their fenders back into place. Suddenly, a tiny man with pointy ears and round glasses runs in to say that Captain Marvel is a jinx and that he’s only bringing trouble. Captain Marvel flies off to the Main Square for the ceremonies of Captain Marvel Day. However, when he lands, the entire stand the Welcoming Committee are on collapses, forcing Captain Marvel to save the Mayor from hitting his head. He notes no one was hurt, but Captain Marvel assumes he’s somehow doing this himself and chalks it up to bad luck… just as we see that Sivana did this by just saying the stand’s supports until his weight would wreck it (as the man from before was clearly Sivana in disguise) and he glues his beard on tighter as if it will help. Captain Marvel goes on a tour of the town with Mayor Pickens. We soon see that Sivana has done something to his car. This is proved as such when the steering column just detaches entirely. Captain Marvel gets out to stop the car himself while Sivana keeps insisting to the crowd that Captain Marvel is somehow responsible for this. A lady hushes him, saying accidents can happen to literally anyone, but Sivana insists that it’s going to happen. Captain Marvel offers Mayor Perkins he can just fly them around town in the car, only for the entire chassis to detach from the rest of the car, terrifying the Mayor (despite it having been just as dangerous.) Everyone begins to agree with Sivana that Captain Marvel might be a jinx…

However, the Mayor is still on his side, which Sivana intends to ruin too. Captain Marvel is taken to the next event of Captain Marvel Day: a tug-of-war between Captain Marvel and the strongest men in town, but the rope breaks, sending most of the strong men in town into a lake, where they decide he’s definitely a jinx and they’ll do it themselves. Sivana leads to citizens of Binkville to burn their new statue of Captain Marvel in effigy, since this is the zenith of Sivana’s plan so far. Captain Marvel is saddened to see people seemingly hate him, only for Sivana to accidentally light his own beard on fire, somehow without harming himself at all, quickly punching him out. However, the trees in the area have caught fire, which Captain Marvel douses y punch a lake at it. Mayor Perkins points out that this was foolish of them altogether to blame Captain Marvel, unveiling the statue and giving him three cheers. Later, Billy signs off by saying Captain Marvel Day was a success in Binkville and that Captain Marvel is only a jinx to evil schemers like Sivana!

Kid tries to argue that you can’t tell how fresh the fish is at a restaurant, but Betty Mae points out that the closest fishing place is 15 miles away and she’s not going that far for a fish lunch. Capt. Kid insists his friend said he could “borrow his car any time I wanted it,” upsetting Betty Mae because it’s a real lemon. He drives down a sharp hill, can’t go up the hill just after and then starts rolling backwards instead. Captain Kid tries to fix this by pushing a car up a hill on his own, which somehow works and he crawls into the car to drive the rest of the way downhill to the lake. Unfortunately, this road leads directly into the lake and Capt. Kid soon finds there aren’t any brakes on this car either. They jump out as it lands in the lake so they don’t sink with it.
