The real Captain von Tepp has been dead since 1939.

History

In September 1939, during the invasion of Poland, Captain von Tepp was a German pilot, responsible for the death of Blackhawk's brother and sister. This crime inspired Blackhawk's long career as a combat pilot.

In 1942, Captain von Tepp's brother, Baron von Tepp, tried to avenge his death by killing Blackhawk, but perished in the attempt.

In 1953, at least eight individual Soviet agents impersonated the late Captain von Tepp.

In 1954, a Soviet agent known as the Human Bomb was unmasked as "Von Tepp! ... Our old enemy, the arch Communist saboteur!"

• Captain von Tepp, the Nazi fighter pilot, was posthumously impersonated, and seemingly killed four more times, in Blackhawk #71.
• He was then apparently Retconned into a Communist saboteur, in Blackhawk #79.
