Carolyn Dole is an Intergang chieftain who once conspired against Superman.

History

Mister Miracle recognized Dole on the street from a news broadcast covering her recent prison break and traced her to her apartment in downtown Las Vegas, where the criminal inventor Xugat demonstrated his psychic weapon, the Mentropy Machine, by using it to compel a known traitor to the organization to remain silent about its secrets. Xugat explained to Dole that the Mentropy Machine could do much more, even obliterating Superman's very mind. Getting the feeling that they were being observed, Dole used the machine to psychically teleport them to a more secure location. Mister Miracle was caught in the aura that the Mentropy Machine emitted in the process of witnessing this and as a consequence became psychologically incapable of directly warning Superman about his imminent peril. Instead, Mister Miracle enacted a convoluted plan of trying to upstage Superman repeatedly in Metropolis and challenging the Man of Tomorrow to a showdown in the Nevada Desert for the right to be Metropolis's protector. Although Superman could not have known at the time, this was truly a subterfuge by Mister Miracle to draw Dole and her henchmen out into the open, so that they could be ambushed and captured before they could use the Mentropy Machine on Superman.
