Carson Jatts was the second Matter Master, making him an enemy of Justice League Unlimited.

History

Carson Jatts was a member of the Metahuman Evidence Confiscation Unit. After years of exposure to hazardous materials, he was diagnosed with a fatal disease. Seeking revenge, Jatts broke into the Justice League Watchtower and attempted to steal the Mentachem Wand. Due to his physiology; however, the wand bonded with him, grafting itself onto his right arm. On the run from Justice League Unlimited, Carson made it to Gotham City, where he took a mall hostage.

Carson was able to use his newfound abilities to stabilize his illness, but the energy release covered his hostages in lead. Generating a costume for himself, he decided to become Mark Mandrill's successor by becoming the new "Matter Master." Carson was confronted by the Justice League and Batman, with the latter sneaking away to move the hostages. Matter Master ended up losing control of his powers and started having a meltdown. Batman directed his allies to amp him up, then having Green Lantern contain the blast. This resulted in Carson transmuting himself into copper, seemingly killing him.
