Quote1 Someone such as yourself, who has faced a handicap and learned to overcome it, deserves not pity -- but praise! You're a remarkable woman, Cassandra Craft! Quote2
Phantom Stranger src

Cassandra Craft was an occultist friend of the Phantom Stranger.

Cassandra Craft was born blind, but her lack of sight was balanced with a strange and strong affinity for the unknown and the occult. However, her first real contact with supernatural forces was while she was living in Manhattan. Certain night in the subway, Cassandra noticed a mystic disturbance and approached the source, only to find a man beaten and lying unconscious on the ground. Cassandra took the man back to her apartment, where the man recovered and learned of Cassandra's abilities. He explained that he had lost his powers and using her medium abilities, Cassandra learned that a magical source was draining the man's abilities from somewhere in Egypt. The two of them travelled there and Cassandra was hypnotized by the pseudo-immortal alchemist Tannarak, who used her abilities to revive the Phoenix. Fortunately, Tannarak was defeated and Cassandra was saved by her unknown friend, who recovered his powers and decided to continue his path alone, not revealing his true identity to her as the Phantom Stranger.[1]

Unfortunately, Cassandra became the target of the Dark Circle, a mysterious secret organization that was defeated in numerous occassions by the Phantom Stranger. The Dark Circle learned of Cassandra and her importance to the Phantom Stranger, so they used her as bait to lure the Phantom into a trap. The Dark Circle manipulated Cassandra into killing the Phantom, but they failed and the Phantom saved Cassandra and defeated the Circle once again. However, the experience brought Cassandra and the Phantom closer together. Cassandra wished to help the Stranger and he decided to stay with her and fight evil together.[2] Not long after that, they were joined by the Phantom's former rival, Tannarak and together, they confronted the Dark Circle in Paris[3] and later in Brazil, where Tannarak and the Phantom Stranger apparently perished fighting the combined forces of Tala and the Dark Circle. Without her companions, Cassandra resumed her regular activities.[4]

Some time later, Cassandra started working as a teacher on a school for the blind. Here, she was attacked by Dr. Seine and she was reunited with the Phantom Stranger when he saved her.[5]

After this adventure, Cassandra moved to San Francisco, where she opened a magical item shop. Eventually, Cassandra became one of the foremost minds on all things magical; many magicians and other magic-types have frequented her shop for items, information or Cassandra's winning personality.
