Cerdian is the long-lost son of Tempest and Dolphin.
History
When Cerdian was a baby, Atlantis was attacked and much of the city was destroyed. Cerdian was lost in the attack and presumed dead. In reality he had been kidnapped by Granny Goodness. Granny told Cerdian and the other boys she had taken that they were orphans. She raised them to be the start of the Furious; a private army under her control, separate from Darkseid's forces.[1]
When Cerdian and the others were about ten, Granny "took in" another baby, Wade West. Granny had attempted to fake Wade's death like the others but she failed and so his family knew he had been taken.[2] Wade's father The Flash, who was also an old friend and teammate of Cerdian's father Tempest, followed Granny to the Palace of Eternity with a host of other heroes to rescue Wade. He chased Granny and Wade into the Forever Corridor while Cerdian and the Furious fought the Flash's allies.
Wally eventually returned with Wade. The Furious demanded to know where Granny was and he told them that she abandoned them, and that they were not orphans but were stolen from their real families. This was confirmed when a scan revealed that Cerdian's teammate PJ was the son of Mister Terrific, one of the Flash's allies. Wally did not recognise Cerdian and his teammate Robert Long as his friend's children, but promised them that he would find out who they really were and return them to their rightful homes. They fled the collapsing Palace and, after months of adventures across time and space, managed to find their way back to Earth in the 21st Century.[1]
Powers and Abilities
Powers
- Atlantean Physiology: Atlanteans are offshoots of humanity that are biologically adapted to the deep ocean environment. All their abilities are by-products of their bodies being adapted to survive unprotected in the tremendous pressures of the ocean depths.
- Magic: Cerdian inherited his father's ability to control magic for the sake of cajoling elemental forces.[1]
- Hydrokinesis: He could focus his mystical power to manipulate water.
Abilities
Notes
- Cerdian was created by Dan Jurgens and Steve Epting, first appearing in Aquaman (Volume 5) #63. However, in the Prime Earth continuity, Cerdian first appeared as part of the New 52 DC Universe in The Flash #799 by Jeremy Adams.
- There was no indication that Cerdian existed in the post-Flashpoint universe prior to his first appearance. It appears he was retroactively added to the history of Prime Earth following the "unknotting" of the timeline after the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal.
