Synopsis for "To Save a Monster / When Deadmen Walk"
With M'Ngala dead, Swamp Thing considers his missions finished and vanishes, meanwhile in the astral realms, Deadman converses with Rama Kushna, who tells him the she still cannot let him rest, and he needs to help more people, so she sends him to the Challengers. Prof is still in critical condition, but with the help of his occult powers, Deadman possesses Prof and sheds him of the fungus. With the crisis averted, the Challengers realize, after reading Claybourne's research on the computer, that Alec and Swamp Thing are the same. They decide to repay his help in Perdition and cure him. With the help of their unknown ally, they locate Swamp Thing in Philadelphia, as Deadman tries to possess him, he realizes that someone already controls him, thus he is rejected. Following the path of destruction that Swamp Thing caused, the Challengers find themselves in a prison, where Swamp Thing is about to free Duncan Pramble, better known as Multi-Man. The villain developed telepathic abilities after the last skirmish, and he uses the brute strength of Swamp Thing to decimate the Challengers. As a last ditch effort, Deadman forcibly separates the connection between Multi-Man and Swamp Thing, frying Duncan's brain. The Challengers invite Swamp Thing to live in their HQ, until they find a cure.
