Synopsis for "The Keening"

At a Chicago church, a gunman barges in to take a choir hostage. The Challengers of the Unknown show up and Marlon rushes the crime scene to negotiate—one of the hostages is his fiancee Jessie. He pleads to let some of the hostages go but the criminal is randomly haunted by visions.

Marlon finds out that the potential shooter is named Declan and he thinks he is encountering a banshee. The spirit has been chasing him for years—ever since he killed his girlfriend for cheating on him—and he is taking refuge in the church.

Marlon invites the spirit into the church and it's the soul of his dead girlfriend. Marlon explains that she has no power in the church, as Declan is now in God's hands and under divine judgement. He beseeches the apparition to visit a nearby newborn girl and visit her protection upon the child.

Seeing how important and redemptive the Challengers are, Jessie breaks up with Marlon—she knows he cannot be committed to the team and her simultaneously.
