Charlie Bowles was a writer for Gotham Broadcasting Company, which Alan Scott had owned and operated during his years following the retirement of his Green Lantern identity.
History
During those years, the writers in Alan Scott's employ were accused of being Communists, one of them being Charlie Bowles, who ended up killing himself. Though Scott was angry that Bowles would buckle under the pressure, he later honored him by setting up a writer's scholarship in his name and memory.
