Chas Chandler was a cab driver and the best friend of John Constantine.
History
Chas was a cab driver and was the best friend of the occult detective John Constantine. During the outbreak of the Anti-Life virus, Chas was turned into one of the Anti-Living while in Liverpool. As Constantine ran into his car while running away from the horde of Anti-Living and told him to start the car, Chas turned around and lunged at his horrified friend. Constantine was forced to burn him up to save himself and used his cab to get away.[1][2]
His death had a profound impact on Constantine and convinced him to help the group of heroes led by Mister Terrific in stopping the Anti-Life, a plan which ultimately failed[1] and left Constantine with a survivor's guilt. He brought Chas' ashes to the Oblivion Bar for safekeeping (though they had been mixed in with ashes of others).[2]
