Checkmate is a government agency tasked with handling matters relating to metahumans.
History
Checkmate once tried to recruit the Justice Society of America, to work for them. However, the members of the JSA turned down the request. In retaliation, Checkmate uncovered their identities and framed the members for various crimes.[1]
By 2010, a whole new generation of metahumans were springing up. With several of them banding together as the Watchtower Network. Like with the JSA, Checkmate tried to forcibly recruit the members of the Watchtower Network but failed.[2] Checkmate was seemingly destroyed when their headquarters was attacked by Major Zod.[3]
